Western Michigan football made the phrase "Row the Boat" more than a catchy slogan.

To them, it's a way of life.

Row the Boat is a three part mantra meaning never give up. It originated during a time in 2011 when WMU head coach P.J. Fleck lost one of his children to a heart condition.

"Oars" are the first part of the metaphor, which represent the energy a person brings to those around them.
