At the recent NFL owners meeting they owners voted in 8 new on-field rule changes. Most of them are slight modifications of existing rules. The one I find most interesting is this one:
13. By Competition Committee; Replaces the sideline replay monitor with a hand-held device and authorizes designated members of the Officiating department to make the final decision on replay reviews.
The old saying ‘going under the hood’ to review a replay is now obsolete thanks to, for one, technology improvements. Yet rather than give the head ref an iPad to carry around they instead are just going to give him a communicator with ‘designated officials’.
