CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had the best season of his NFL career two years ago, when Jerricho Cotchery was his slot receiver.
Cotchery will attempt to get the 2015 NFL MVP back to that form as a coach.
Coach Ron Rivera announced on Thursday at the NFL combine in Indianapolis that the 34-year-old Cotchery has been hired as an assistant wide receivers coach to focus specifically on the slot.
It’s part of the evolution of the offense to make Newton less a threat as a runner and more of a threat as a passer.
