Carolina Panthers: Defensive players set to breakout in 2017

The Carolina Panthers defense took a step backwards last year finishing 21st overall in yards against. The big reason was in the secondary, as the passing defense dropped from 11th to 29th in passing yards against. This was due in large part to the loss of Josh Norman and a struggle to find consistent play at safety alongside Kurt Coleman.

The focus during free agency was on the defensive side of the ball and the team added a number of veterans including Julius Peppers, Captain Munnerlyn and Mike Adams. These players should help get this group back to being a Top 10 unit.
