2014 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers Select Kony Ealy

With the 60th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers have selected Kony Ealy out of Missouri.

Position: Defensive End

Measurables: 6’4”, 273 lbs, 34 ¼” arm length, 9 ½” hands

As a first-team All-SEC selection at defensive end for Missouri in 2013, Ealy posted 43 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, and 9.5 sacks – along with six passes defended, an interception, and three forced fumbles. Ealy has linebacker speed, posting a 6.83 second time in the 3-cone drill at the NFL Combine to lead all defensive linemen. Ealy ran a 4.92 40-yard dash, and also benched 225 pounds 22 times.

Ealy has a long, sturdy frame which will help him maintain balance and leverage against the top-tier NFL offensive lines. His quickness around the corner is his biggest selling point, as he can dip his shoulder and bend around the corner in one fluid motion. Ealy has great instincts on the ball, and will be extremely teachable from the get-go.
