Hurricanes Wrap Up First Day of 2016 NHL Draft

RALEIGH, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes on Friday used their two first-round picks in the 2016 NHL Draft to select defenseman Jake Bean (13th overall, Calgary – WHL) and forward Julien Gauthier (21st overall, Val d’Or – QMJHL) at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY.

Bean, 18, scored 24 goals and earned 40 assists (64 points) in 68 regular-season games in 2015-16 for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Calgary native ranked first among WHL blueliners with 24 goals, tied for first among league defensemen with 12 power-play goals and sixth in defensemen points (64).
