CRANBERRY TWP, PA. - Expect Capitals defenceman Brooks Orpik to learn his fate Sunday evening for the headshot that has left the Penguins’ Olli Maatta out of the Pittsburgh lineup indefinitely.
Orpik was scheduled to have a phone hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for the high blow he delivered to the Penguins blueliner just 4:13 into the first period of Pittsburgh’s 2-1 victory in Game 2 of this best-of-seven second round series Saturday in Washington.
While Maatta was being evaluated Sunday, coach Mike Sullivan said his availability for Game 3 Monday was extremely doubtful.
