Edmonton Oilers drop to fourth in NHL Draft Lottery

The Edmonton Oilers did not match their five-in-seven years as in Stanley Cups with draft lottery wins.

If they had finished second or third, most would have considered it a win. But fourth? Losers

The NHL’s move to go to three rounds of lottery, clearly instituted as a result of Edmonton’s success, had the desired effect. With the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the lottery and Auston Matthews, under the previous format the Oilers would have picked second and Patrik Laine.

The Oilers, as it worked out, picking fourth, weren't even close to getting Matthews. But think about it.
