Calgary Flames super sophomore Johnny Gaudreau wastes no time finding scoresheet

The Calgary Flames can’t glean a lot of positives from Wednesday’s lopsided loss in their season-opener at the Saddledome.

But here’s one ...

Slippery winger Johnny Gaudreau provided a nifty setup on the Flames’ lone strike in a 5-1 shelling from the Vancouver Canucks, a good omen as the 22-year-old tries to avoid the dreaded ‘sophomore slump’ and build on a 66-point rookie campaign.

To refresh your memory, Gaudreau struggled through a five-game drought — and a one-night breather as a healthy scratch — before finally collecting a point last fall.

“That felt like an eternity, honestly,” Gaudreau recalled of that dry-spell, probably the longest he’s ever endured at any level.
