NHL notebook: Flyers sign Couturier to six-year extension

The Philadelphia Flyers locked up one of their promising young forwards on Tuesday.

Sean Couturier signed a six-year contract extension worth a reported $25.98 million that would see the centre avoid restricted free agency in 2016.

“It’s a great organization, they believe in me,” Couturier said in a conference call via CSNPhilly.com. “I’m really happy to be there for the next six years. I love the organization, the city. I think the future is bright in Philly. Hopefully we can do some good things during those six years.”

Couturier, 22, recorded a career-high 15 goals and added 22 assists in 82 games last season.
