BYU football: Cougars to open 2017 season with home game against Portland State

BYU has a new opening opponent for the 2017 season: Portland State.

The school announced Monday that the Cougars will begin next season with a home game against Portland State of the Big Sky Conference on Aug. 26, 2017. It’s the first meeting between the two schools.

Prior to the announcement, the Cougars already had 12 scheduled games, including a neutral-site game against the SEC’s LSU on Sept. 2 at NRG Stadium in Houston, home of the NFL’s Texans.

Since the Cougars will play at Hawaii in November, an NCAA rule allows BYU to schedule a 13th regular-season game.
