Insider: Butler wins handily but Holtmann wants more

INDIANAPOLIS – Before Saturday’s college basketball game, Butler coach Chris Holtmann met with Kelan Martin to examine why the junior forward was shooting 30 percent on 3-pointers.

Too many 3s late in the shot clock, the coach said. One or two bad 3s a game, the player heard.

Then Central Arkansas employed a zone. Thanks, Bears.

Martin foiled that defense by sinking five second-half 3s – three of them little more than two minutes apart – and scored 30 points as No. 18 Butler rolled to an 82-58 victory at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs (8-0) are off to their best start since also going 8-0 to open the 2008-09 season.
