Nets Rumors: Could LeBron James be Nets free agency option in 2015?

In today's Nets rumors and news update, the Brooklyn Nets are seemingly up against a wall when it comes to salary for the 2014-15 season - even with the loss of Shaun Livingston and rumors about a potential Paul Pierce departure.

Therefore, in all likelihood, the Nets are most likely out of any marquee free-agent conversations this summer unless the team can swing a massive sign-and-trade involving someone like Deron Williams or Brook Lopez.

However, with news that LeBron James could very well accept a deal for one or two years in Miami, there is a very good chance that James could opt for free agency once again in 2015 - a scenario where the Brooklyn Nets could conceivably contend for his services.

According to Spotrac.com, the Nets only have four contracts which extend into the 2015-16 season: Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, and Mason Plumlee.

The hold-up on a potential James signing, though, would be the nature of Johnson, Williams, and Lopez's deals - two of which will exceed $21 million in 2015-16 and one (Lopez) at $16.7 million.

However, both Lopez and Johnson would be on expiring contracts - a boon for the Nets if they decide to dangle either player in a potential sign-and-trade.

Add owner Mikhail Prokhorov's penchant for spending regardless of cap limits and you have a somewhat solid chance that the Nets could sign LeBron - providing his stated interest in playing in Brooklyn is legit.
