Barclays Center opened in September 2012 to eight Jay-Z concerts, followed quickly by the Nets inaugural season. Now, the arena and surrounding properties in the Pacific Park (formerly Atlantic Yards) complex are undergoing a second phase of construction, one that will change the look of the neighborhood and see construction cranes proliferate.
This new phase includes work at the arena -- the construction of new locker rooms for the Islanders and the installation of a new green roof, as well as on the periphery -- the re-start of one 33-story apartment tower at one corner of the arena and the start of a second, 22-story, tower at another corner, plus two others nearby.
