Japan righty Kenta Maeda may be option

As if there weren’t enough pitchers on the free agent market already, ace-starved Major League Baseball teams like the Red Sox might have yet another gifted arm to consider writing an oversized check to.

Kenta Maeda, the 27-year-old who currently sits on the throne vacated by former Japanese pitching kings Yu Darvish and Masahiro Tanaka, has asked his professional club to post him for all MLB teams to bid on, according to a report in the Kyodo News. A decision is expected to be made by the Hiroshima Carp, Maeda’s team in the Japan Central League, by the end of this week, which would provide plenty of time for major league teams to shuffle their plans before the action-packed winter meetings begin in early December.
