As of Tuesday, Koji Uehara is expected to be the Red Sox’ closer in 2016, a season he’ll begin as a 41-year-old. But the Red Sox are looking for other options, too.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the Sox view Uehara as a capable closer, but “who knows what will happen?”
“I’m also concerned if the same thing happens this year, if we have an injury, [Junichi] Tazawa is much more comfortable pitching the eighth inning instead of the ninth inning,” Dombrowski said. “As you know he mixed and matched and Robbie Ross did a good job for us.
