Dave Dombrowski: Red Sox won't hire a general manager

BOSTON -- General manager? The Boston Red Sox have decided they don't need a general manager.

Rather than replacing Mike Hazen, who left the organization 10 days ago to become general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced Tuesday that Eddie Romero will be promoted to the position of senior vice president/assistant general manager.

Dombrowski added that he doesn't plan to name a GM "at this time."

The move reaffirms what was already clear: Dombrowski is the ultimate decision-maker in the Red Sox's baseball operations department.
