Red Sox Manager John Farrell Has Grade 1 Lymphoma, To Step Away From Team

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell revealed to the press on Friday that doctors found Stage 1 lymphoma when conducting his hernia surgery in Detroit on Monday.

He will step away from the team to begin treatment "in a couple days," with chemotherapy tentatively slated to last about nine weeks, according to Farrell.

Thankfully, it was detected in the hernia surgery,” Farrell told reporters Friday night at Fenway Park.

“This was something that came up, reared its head on Friday,” Farrell told the press in regards to his absence on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Marlins, via ESPN.com. “After some tests on Saturday, it was determined that it needed to be taken care of Monday morning. Overnight in the hospital, I come down here. “I won’t win a sprint race right now, I’ll tell you that, but we’re here.”
