Report: Pablo Sandoval "Leaning Toward" Red Sox Despite Bigger Offer From The Padres

In this Red Sox news update, despite not having the biggest offer on the table from a purely financial standpoint, the Boston Red Sox might have the best offer in when it comes to securing free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval.

John Shea of SFGate.com hears that "Pablo Sandoval has received his highest contract offer from the Padres but is leaning toward accepting an offer from the Red Sox, though events could change in a hurry."

San Francisco Giants assistant GM Bobby Evans spoke with Sandoval's agent on Thursday and indicated that a decision could come before Thanksgiving. The Red Sox, Padres, and home-standing Giants are all said to still be in the mix for the postseason hero's services.

However, seeing that the Giants offered Sandoval three years at $40 million in spring training and, per the Boston Globe, Boston's offer lies somewhere in the five-year, $95 million range, the Red Sox and Padres may very well have price the Giants out of the mix.

Stay tuned.
