Celtics Notebook: Marcus Smart injury adds to team’s pain

When last seen, Marcus Smart was departing the Celtics locker room Wednesday night on crutches with his sprained left ankle in a protective boot.

According to Celtics president Danny Ainge, what’s left is a wait for more information, “after the swelling goes down.” Ainge said an MRI taken of the ankle yesterday confirmed a sprain.

But with the Celtics’ Oct. 26 season opener against Brooklyn just six days away, Ainge said yesterday it’s unclear whether Smart will be ready.

“I’d be surprised if we have any more information on a timetable sooner than the next couple of days,” said Ainge.
