This morning, Celtics fans awoke to hear two devastating reports from ESPN’s Marc Stein regarding the Celtics’ free agency: first relaying that Kevin Love has already notified the Cavaliers that he’d be returning; while the other alleging Tim Duncan will take a pay-cut to create the cap space required sign LaMarcus Aldridge; which now makes San Antonio the heavy front-runners in the Aldridge sweepstakes.
While none of this was particularly surprising, it’s still difficult to hear that the Celtics had struck out in trying to sign big name free agents. We’ve long been told Boston appealed little to free agents, however – finally armed with cap space – it seemed the Celtics would finally be able to prove the doubters wrong.
