Celtics Rumors Update: Jay Larranaga as lead assistant, free agent Kent Bazemore

In today's Celtics Rumors Update, we'll look at the Boston Celtics' new lead assistant to head coach Brad Stevens and the team's meeting with a potential backup guard option next week.

Jay Larranaga promoted to lead assistant coach

According to Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe, the Boston Celtics have a new lead assistant coach in Jay Larranaga. He replaces former lead assistant Ron Adams who left to join Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr's staff in a similar capacity.

Per Holmes, "it’s no surprise that Larranaga will be bumped up to lead assistant. He was a candidate for the Celtics’ head coaching position last summer after Rivers left to join the Los Angeles Clippers."

In a strange bit of coincidence, Darren Erman will be moved from Celtics' director of NBA scouting into an assistant coaching role. Erman was last an assistant coach for recently-fired Warriors head coach Mark Jackson last season.

Erman was fired from his post in Oakland in April after reportedly taping conversations between members of the Warriors' coaching staff without their knowledge or consent.

Bazemore to meet with Celtics

According to Mike A. Scotto of Sheridan Hoops, the Celtics will meet with former Lakers and Warriors guard Kent Bazemore in the middle of next week:

The Lakers declined to present a qualifying offer to Bazemore, making him an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 6.0 points and 1.4 assists in 13.6 minutes per game in 2013-14.
