Celtics Rumors: Rondo's future with the team, Marcus Smart rumblings

In today's look into Celtics rumors and news, the Boston Celtics are planning for a future with Rajon Rondo - despite intimations to the contrary after the team drafted Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart with the sixth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Per Matt Moore of CBS Sports, Celtics team president Rich Gotham spoke with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio Friday about the team's desire to move forward with Rondo:

"It's a two way street. ... We want him here and we're hopeful he wants to be here for the long term, which he says he does," Gotham said. "He's our best player and in the NBA you win with talent. He's a big part of what we're doing and will continue going forward."

After what many analysts are terming as one of the best drafts for any NBA team this year, Gotham warned everyone that the team's big picture doesn't end with the draft.

"We challenge ourselves to think big," Gotham stated. "And [president of basketball operations Danny Ainge] is great at that and doesn't put himself in any boxes. People think that because we took those picks at 6 and 19 and didn't trade them, that means we're done, it's now only about young player development."

"We look at the whole spectrum of opportunities."
