Celtics Rumors: Rajon Rondo rumblings, trade value decreased?

In today's Celtics rumors and news update, the Boston Celtics might have a tougher time finding a suitor for Rajon Rondo in the trade market than some might think.

If the Boston Celtics decided to go forward with a Marcus Smart/Avery Bradley combination in the backcourt, making Rondo an expendable commodity to utilize as a trade chip, one anonymous NBA general manager believes that his value might have decreased in the past year or two.

“You’re not going to get a bidding war over Rondo,” the GM said, via Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald. “He’s a great player, and teams have interest in him, but they’re not going to rearrange their world to make a run at him like they would for some people.

“Now, if he comes back next season and takes another step forward after the surgery, that could change things. Teams might want him more, and, you know, Danny could decide to keep him and hope he can re-sign him next summer.”

Rondo had ACL surgery on his right knee in February, but should be all systems go for the beginning of the 2014-15 NBA season.

However, the injury along with Rondo's recent insistence about picking up a $100 million extension in 2015 might put his trade stock into "wait and see" mode, with his value fluctuating based on his performance next season.
