The Boston Celtics weren't expected to do much at the trade deadline, but they did bring in point guard Isaiah Thomas from the Phoenix Suns.
Thomas, who's only 5'9", is in the first season of a four-year, $27 million deal he signed with Phoenix in the offseason, giving Boston the stability they wanted in their backcourt.
"We really don't want to get rid of multiple draft picks for players with uncertainty in the free-agent market -- a situation like we were in with [Rajon] Rondo. ... We're looking for more certainty," President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge said.
Ainge went on to discuss the reasoning behind the trade, saying the Celtics just weren't good enough:
"We really like [the team's young guards] a lot, but you need depth and you need a lot shooting and scoring at the guard position to be a great team. We like our young kids, also. But we don't have enough. The talent level that we have right now is not good enough at this moment."
Thomas is expected to play a major role in the guard rotation with Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley, presumably starting until Smart takes over the reigns as point guard.
