Celtics News: Boston Loses Tiebreaker With Lakers For #27 Pick In 2015 NBA Draft

The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics' storied rivalry added a bizarre new chapter on Friday, as a Celtics lost out to the Lakers on the #27 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft thanks to the randomness of a ping pong ball drawing.

Here's Boston.com's Jack Andrade with the report:

The longtime foes ended up facing off in the tiebreaker scenarios due to previous transactions with the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets, respectively. The Western Conference teams finished the 2014-2015 regular season with the same record (56-26). The tie meant a 50/50 tiebreaker at NBA headquarters in New York was needed to determine which team would own the 27th pick. The Lakers own the Rockets’ first-round pick this season as part of the Jeremy Lin trade. The Celtics possess the Clippers’ first round pick as compensation for allowing Doc Rivers to go to Los Angeles.

With Friday's drawing in the books, the Celtics now have a claim on the #16 and #28 picks in the 2015 NBA Draft, along with two second-round picks (#33, #45).
