Inside the play: Oklahoma's Joe Mixon puts Pokes away with dazzling dash

NORMAN, Okla. -- The play called “Over” finally put the Sooners over the top. And behind Joe Mixon’s dazzling dash, Oklahoma clinched its 10th Big 12 championship Saturday.

Facing fourth-and-2 at the Sooners' 21 in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy curiously opted for a field goal.

Down 31-20, the Cowboys did need two scores. But in rainy conditions, a field goal from that far out seemed perilous. On top of that, it seemed to be just a matter of time before Oklahoma's powerful offense would break off a big offense play.

“You’re always waiting for the floodgates to open,” Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield said.
