The Chicago Cubs on Friday claimed left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser off waivers from the Orioles, who him designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Odrisamer Despaigne last week.
The Orioles had been planning on inviting Riefenhauser to major league camp had he cleared waivers, but instead, they remain with 30 pitchers coming to big league spring training when pitchers and catchers report next week.
Riefenhauser, who ended last season with the Tampa Bay Rays, is now on his fourth team since he last pitched in a major league game.
