Trending Orioles News - Orioles working to keep Johan Santana from opting out

In today's Orioles news update, the Baltimore Orioles are doing everything they can to get former ace Johan Santana to keep from opting out of minor league deal with the club.

Per Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun, "the team has until tomorrow at midnight to work something out with Santana, the two-time Cy Young award winner who hasn’t pitched since 2012 and is coming off a second shoulder surgery in a three-year span."

Before bringing Santana up, the Orioles have asked Santana to throw one more extended spring training outing of around 85 pitches before making his first start with one of the Orioles' affiliates, Triple-A Norfolk on June 8th.

According to Encina, "if that went well, he would go to Double-A Bowie on June 13 for a home game against Harrisburg, with the hopes of being ready for the Orioles by June 18 or 19, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said recently."

Santana hasn't commented as of yet on whether or not he intends to accept their current plan for him
