Second baseman Jonathan Schoop rejoins Orioles starting lineup and other early notes

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop made his first major league start in more than 11 weeks today in the Orioles’ series finale against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Park.

The Orioles activated Schoop, who suffered a right knee injury in mid-April, from the disabled list before Sunday’s game.

“I’m really excited,” Schoop said before the game. “I’m looking forward to it. I couldn’t sleep yesterday, I’m excited, I’m nervous. … [The recovery] felt long, especially the first two weeks was really long. But I got through it. Just tried to work hard and be a better player than I was.
