The Auburn Tigers baseball team opened SEC play this weekend by sweeping the No. 5 Florida Gators with strong pitching and timely hitting, showing that it will be a force to be reckoned with the rest of the season.
Auburn relied on strong pitching from aces Keegan Thompson and Casey Mize to win the first two games, and then had its bullpen, which had struggled earlier in the season, come through in Sunday’s closer.
Thompson pitched 6.1 innings in Friday’s opener, striking out eight and giving up just one earned run in the 14-3 victory.
