Your Auburn Tigers recruiting news update for September 18th:
Five-star Paramus (NJ) defensive tackle Rashan Gary is the #1 overall recruit in the nation according to most major recruiting outlets, and the Auburn Tigers appear to be the favorite, if not one of the favorites to land his signature.
One major feather Auburn has in their cap right now is the approval of Gary's mom, Jennifer Coney-Shepard. Coney-Shepard is wary of all recruiters with the mass amount of attention being paid to her son (including those at Auburn), but she's got a really good feeling about the "environment" at Auburn regardless.
“I like the atmosphere,” she said. “I got a good, comfortable vibe there. I like the environment. I like the staff. Not the coaching staff — it was the regular staff. I just got a good vibe from them. The head of the academic services department — I got a good vibe from them. I like the facilities. I love the dorms. Nothing is better than the dorms of Auburn and LSU. But my son says none of that matters to him. The little things are important to me, like where he puts his head down at night. For Rashan, he has to have a good rapport with his defensive line coach. I do think that’s important, also. I want to be able to call you and talk about my son. And when I do, don’t give me a generic answer. Tell me what’s going on. I need that kind of relationship."
