Instant Reaction: Wisconsin Sneaks Past Auburn 34-31 In Outback Bowl Overtime Thriller

It wasn't easy to predict what would happen when two of college football's most entertaining teams met in the Outback Bowl, but we all knew one thing for sure: it wouldn't be boring.

In a back-and-forth game that featured big plays, big hits, and big calls, the Wisconsin Badgers came out victorious after Auburn's 45-yard field goal attempt hit the uprights.

Turning Point:

This game featured a number of key moments, but things weren't really decided until Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson sent the game-tying field goal centimeters to the right. It was a tough ending for Auburn, but especially for Carlson, a freshman who had a very solid year up to this point.

Wisconsin MVP:

To the surprise of absolutely no one, today was all about Melvin Gordon for the Badgers. Gordon steamrolled his way to 251 rushing yards on 34 carries, and his three touchdowns topped off a sensational day for the NFL-bound junior.

Auburn MVP:

Nick Marshall (15/22, 217 passing yards & 2 TDs) and Cameron Artis-Payne (126 yards and 2 TDs on 26 carries) share the honors in their last game for the Tigers. This definitely isn't how they would have planned their college finale, but both can be very proud of their accomplishments in an Auburn uniform.

Stat of the Day:

Wisconsin gained 400 total yards on the ground. Auburn's previous season-high for rushing yards allowed was 289, vs Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb and the Georgia Bulldogs.

What's Next?

This was an excellent ending to a dramatic season for Wisconsin (11-3), who will try to carry some of this momentum into their first offseason under new head coach Paul Chryst. Auburn (8-5) had a rough end to 2014, losing five of their last eight games, but they can now turn their attention to the recruiting trail, where new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is already making his presence felt.
