Auburn vs. South Carolina Preview and Prediction

The Auburn Tigers return to action to take on the Gamecocks in an SEC showdown.

Auburn lost to Mississippi State in their last game, and are looking to get back on track with Ole Miss on the horizon. South Carolina will look to play spoiler against the Tigers, after pulling off an upset against Georgia early in the season.

Records:

Auburn: 5-1 (2-1 SEC)

South Carolina: 4-3 (2-3 SEC)

Last Meeting: Auburn won 16-13 in 2011

Key Stat: Mississippi State's 38 points last game were equal to the total points Auburn had given up in their previous three games combined (Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, LSU).

Auburn Outlook: The Tigers lost to Mississippi State in their last game, but are coming off an open date heading into this game.

Thanks to a number of losses at the top of the rankings, Auburn is still number five, keeping their playoff hopes alive heading down the stretch of a tough SEC schedule.

Nick Marshall and the Tigers need a win against South Carolina with Ole Miss (third), Georgia (ninth) and Alabama (fourth) still on the schedule.

South Carolina Outlook: The Gamecocks upset Georgia early in the season, but things have been rocky for SC since then.

They have lost two of three games, and the defense has not been impressive all season. Offensively, running back Mike Davis has posted a solid eight touchdowns and 662 yards on the ground thus far.

What to watch for: Offense will not be the problem for either team, so the deciding factor will be which team can muster any type of defense.

That would favor the Tigers, who are allowing just 18.3 points per game, but the Gamecocks are scoring a solid 35.1 per game. One of those numbers is going to give in this one.

What they're saying - Tigers:

Auburn offense on the go toward positive second half (AuburnTigers.com)

Auburn sticking with same offensive line combination (AL.com)

What they're saying - Gamecocks:

Mike Davis could pass Mike Davis this week? (Garnet and Cocky)

Heading into Auburn, Gamecocks lean on hope and belief (The Post and Courier)

Prediction:

Auburn - 41, South Carolina 29

There should be a lot of scoring in this game, which favors the Tigers. South Carolina's defense is not going to pose much of a threat against Auburn's offense, and the Gamecocks just can't match the high-speed pace the Tigers are going to have.
