Aston Villa are set to complete the signing of Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan for a fee worth up to £1.5m.
Villa, who signed Ahmed Elmohamady from Hull City for £1million, are selling defender Tommy Elphick to Birmingham City.
They will offer a two year deal to Whelan, 33, once he passes a medical.
The Republic of Ireland international has been at the Bet365 Stadium for nine years after joining Stoke in January 2008, ahead of their Premier League promotion.
