Arizona baseball: Lopez retires, 'needs to get away from games'

The Andy Lopez era is finished at Arizona.

The UA's longtime baseball coach announced his retirement early Monday via a news release.

Lopez won the 2012 College World Series with the Wildcats, the second of his career. He took home the 1992 national championship while at Pepperdine.

But since the title in 2012, Lopez's career has taken a rough turn, both off and on the field.

Lopez, who has been the Arizona coach since 2002, missed the postseason each of the last three years.

The Wildcats wrapped up their season Sunday with a win over Hawaii at Hi Corbett Field.
