Former ASU shortstop Deven Marrero was called up by the Boston Red Sox Thursday to help fill Dustin Pedroia's absence.

Boston Red Sox second baseman and Arizona State alum Dustin Pedroia strained his right hamstring Thursday, landing him on the 15-day disabled list.
What Pedroia did not know however, was that his placement on the disabled list was an unconventional helping hand to a fellow Sun Devil.
Four years ago former ASU shortstop Deven Marrero signed with the Red Sox after being taken in the first round as the 24th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.
