Source: D-backs sign Mathis, non-tender Castillo

PHOENIX -- The D-backs have agreed to terms with catcher Jeff Mathis on a two-year, $4 million contract, a baseball source confirmed on Friday night. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Fan Rag Sports was the first to report the deal, while The Arizona Republic had the contract terms.

The D-backs were in need of a catcher after they decided earlier in the day to not tender a contract to Welington Castillo, who became a free agent. The team also lost catcher Tuffy Gosewisch recently when he was claimed off waivers.
