Gio Gonzalez was a wreck, taking 100 pitches to pitch 3 2⁄3 of baseball in terrible weather before jumping on a plane to attend the funeral of his friend Jose Fernandez. Shelby Miller, on the other hand, was effectively wild for five innings, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out five, allowing no Nationals to cross the plate. The big story of the night though was Jean Segura swatting three more hits in his three plate appearances. With the game lasting just long enough to become official, that brought Segura’s hit tall to 200 for the season.
