Report: D-Backs agree to terms with Tyler Clippard

The Diamondbacks have found the bullpen depth they’ve sought all off-season, agreeing to terms on Monday with right-hander Tyler Clippard on a two-year, $12.25 million contract, according to a report.

The deal, first reported by FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, will pay Clippard a $4 million signing bonus as well as annual salaries of $4.1 million this year and $4.15 million in 2017.

Clippard gives the Diamondbacks another proven arm to slot in near the end of games. He’ll join closer Brad Ziegler, right-hander Daniel Hudson and lefty Andrew Chafin as the club’s primary late-game options.

Their trade late last month with the Milwaukee Brewers, in which they dealt second baseman Aaron Hill in exchange for shortstop Jean Segura, saved them about $4 million, money they have apparently redirected to the bullpen.
