NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – In Mike Hazen’s two most significant moves since taking over as Diamondbacks general manager, he has parted ways with second baseman Jean Segura and catcher Welington Castillo, a pair that last season combined for 106 extra-base hits, slugged a collective .469 and posted overall offensive numbers north of league average for their positions.
While he acknowledged their contributions, Hazen did not seem overly concerned about finding ways to fill the void on offense, saying that not only is he counting on improved health but also that he expects to add to his position-player group before the start of next season.
