Godley missing his command in loss to Cubs

CHICAGO – The pitch sailed high, the fourth such offering from Zack Godley that missed the strike zone against Kris Bryant, and Godley looked straight to the ground, not even waiting for the umpire’s call.

In his five previous appearances for the Diamondbacks this season, Godley, a rookie right-hander, had been aggressive and fearless, a high-energy pitcher who channeled his emotions in the most effective of ways.

On Friday at Wrigley Field, however, his emotions appeared to get the best of him. Or, at least, that was the prevailing theory in the visitors’ clubhouse after Godley and the Diamondbacks were trounced 14-5 by the Chicago Cubs in the opener of a three-game series.
