New Diamondbacks slugger J.D. Martinez connected for a two-strike, opposite-field grand slam in the fourth inning on Thursday, giving the Diamondbacks a 4-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Behind in the count 1-2, Martinez hit a belt-high fastball from Cardinals right-hander Luke Weaver, driving the ball out to right field. The ball barely cleared the fence in right.

A.J. Pollock led off with a double into the gap. Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt drew consecutive walks on full counts, setting the stage for Martinez.

The home run was Martinez’s fourth in his sixth game with the Diamondbacks.
