Slow and steady Collmenter leads Diamondbacks to win

SAN FRANCISCO – It was a big moment, a chance to finish the second shutout of his career, so Josh Collmenter reached back for a little extra in the ninth inning on Friday night. He dialed it up to 86 mph.

Actually, that's not how it went down, according to Collmenter, but his four-hit shutout of the San Francisco Giants on Friday night was both unexpected and instructive, another example of how little the radar gun matters for the Diamondbacks' soft-tossing right-hander.

In leading the Diamondbacks to a 9-0 win over the Giants, Collmenter threw just seven of his 114 pitches over 84 mph.
