Arizona Cardinals sign RB Chris Johnson to 1-year deal

Running back Chris Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals, the team announced Thursday. Financial details were not available.

It will be Johnson’s third season with the team.

He backed up David Johnson through the first four games of 2016.

Chris Johnson suffered a groin injury and was placed on injured reserve, missing the remainder of the season.

The Cardinals, who report to training camp on Friday, had a roster spot open, so they didn’t have to make a personnel move to make room for Johnson.

The addition adds intrigue to the team’s running back depth chart.
