The Mountaineers have had two preseason matches against NC State and in the Black and Gold match. Appalachian and NC State ended in a 0-0 tie highlighted by some clutch saves by Mitch Kilmer late in the match to keep the game tied in a defensive stalemate, while Daniel Avila and Tyquann Perinchief both notched goals for their respective squads in the Black and Gold contest.
