EVANSTON, Ill. - The Akron Zips women's tennis team notched its first win of the season with a 7-0 victory over Chicago State on Sunday afternoon at Combe Tennis Center in Evanston.
Akron evens its record at 1-1 on the season, while Chicago State drops to 0-2.
"Good win today. It was obvious that everyone was extremely tired, but they pushed through and did what they had to do in order to come away with the win," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "I was most impressed by the improvement in each player's decision making process."
The Zips earned the doubles point with a pair of wins as the pairings of senior Shannon Newnes (Romford, London)/freshman Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) and junior Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia)/junior Waverly Wituski (Springboro, Ohio) each picked up 6-1 victories at the top two spots.
