Clemson seeks way to hold big leads, calm nerves for CFP

It is quite possible that television viewers flipped to the topsy-turvy Big Ten championship game after Clemson jumped to a 35-17 third-quarter lead over Virginia Tech on Saturday in Orlando.

Clemson fans? Well, they kept chewing their nails, drying their sweaty palms and taking deep breaths to avoid serious heart palpitations as they watched their team try to win another ACC title. Double-digit leads have not exactly been a lock throughout this season.

Then it happened as if on cue. Virginia Tech scored two quick touchdowns and had an opportunity to win late before Cordrea Tankersley intercepted a fourth-down pass with a little over a minute left to play.
